Pi Chapter's 4th Annual "Purple Mic" event at Stony Brook University was an incredible success. It exceeded expectations both in terms of content and student reaction. We were pleasantly surprised and very proud of the event from top to bottom.
Purple Mic featured four student poets, two professional comedians, and one live band. The student performers gave emotional and dramatic pieces that touched upon experiences that we as minorities, were able to relate to. The comedians were both Latin males who also humored the crowd with Latino experiences and their challenges being men. The funnier of the two, Mark Viera, had most of the crowd in tears of laughter. The live band played an eclectic blend of Latino Rock with house music and entertained our crowd of about 100 people for about 25 minutes.
Overall, our 4th Annual "Purple Mic" was an event that put a smile on everyone's faces, provided an escape from the rigors of what can be a demanding college life, and showed that we at Pi chapter take pride in the work we put forth. It will be nominated for many awards at the yearly Inter Fraternal and Sorority Council awards banquet, including Program/Event of the Year. We look to build on this event and create something even more memorable next November.
