2002 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

At the 2002 Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity convention in Washington D.C., the following members were recognized for their academic achievements and active participation on their respective campuses (fraternity and non-fraternity related) by being awarded scholarships provided by the Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation: 

Brother Ernest Anunciacion - Brother Ernest from the Alpha Beta chapter has a 4.0 GPA. He served as Vice President of the Alpha Beta Chapter last year. He is currently a MIS major. He led in the implementation of a Leadership/Community Service Workshop for La Opportunidad, an organization that assists at risk Latino youth towards having better futures for their adulthood. He was part of the step show that was performed for high school students, and he is an active brother at his chapter. 

Brother Jose Tapia - Brother Jose from the Beta Beta Chapter graduated this year with a double major of Physics and Applied Mathematics receiving a 3.97 GPA. He is currently attending UC Berkley Graduate School where he is in a PhD program in mathematical physics. Brother Jose received many awards for his academic achievement: The Order of Omega Award as Greek Valedictorian (having the highest GPA of all Greeks at Loyola Maramount University), the Department Award for Outstanding Performance in Physics, was chosen as Scholar of the Year for the College of Science and Engineering, and most notably of all he was chosen Scholar of the Year for the University as a whole. 

Brother Arun Motilall - Brother Motilall from the Alpha Beta received a 3.8 GPA during the spring '02 semester. He is currently a Finance major. He has been active within the chapter, attending almost every meeting and event. He assisted at a community service project for the Ronald McDonald house and was also part of the step show team that performed to high school students. Brother Arun can always be counted upon for meetings and events and has a reputation of being a brother who keeps his word. 

Brother Joe Ramirez -Initiated in the fall semester, Joe has been very active within the Mu Beta Chapter. He has served as the Chapter Treasurer and has been very active in the Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO). He received a 3.6 GPA for the fall '01 semester and received a 4.0 GPA for the spring semester. He worked with the Midwest District Banquet committee and he is in charge of managing the community service events for the Mu Beta Chapter. 

Brother Abraham Chavez - A member of our colony at the University of Texas - El Paso, he has been a brother since 2001 and has a 3.58 GPA in microbiology. He plans to attend medical school upon completion of his undergraduate work in two years. He is an active member on campus and has participated in many community service events
