2003 Summer Intern

Christopher Michael Garcia, born on August 2, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois is currently a senior at the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. Brother Chris was born into the Purple and White nation on December 9, 2001 and has remained active within Sigma Lambda Beta on both the local and district levels. Brother Chris is a first generation college student from the south side of Chicago and chose to be a part of Sigma Lambda Beta when entering college because of the ideals the organization is based on and also the brotherhood within it gave him, "a home away from home."
In a year, Brother Chris will graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural & Environmental Communications and Education with an Option in Agricultural Communication and a specialization in Advertising in addition to a Certification in Leadership Studies. Upon graduation, Brother Chris hopes to remain in the University setting, within the Student Affairs area where he feels his motivation will drive him to encourage other Latino/as and students from disadvantaged backgrounds to embrace college life as well as earn a Masters degree in Higher Education/Administration or Labor & Industrial Relations.

"College life wasn't exactly the easiest for me. I had many things going against me coming out of high school-namely a lack of experience and financial backing going into college. However, I must say coming to the University was the best decision I could have made to ensure a positive and fulfilling career and life, not only for myself but for those I love." said brother Chris.

Currently the summer intern for the Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation, his goals are to raise awareness and funds for the foundation. With this marketing experience, Brother Chris aims to improve the quality of this organization to ensure its future success.
