2015 Opportunity For Wisdom Scholarship Recipient
Brother Phillip Lopez
To the donors of the Opportunity for Wisdom Fund,
I'd like to first and foremost thank the Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation for this opportunity. I was floored by an announcement that very few active undergraduate brothers apply for the scholarship on a yearly basis - no other opportunity in our Fraternity allows for hard work for our chapters, regions, or national organization to be recognized in a similar way. As our most honorable Fraternity continues to grow, it is the responsibility of our membership to let potential and new brothers know of the Education Foundation and what it could mean not only to individual brothers, but chapters who need funding for the programming their respective campuses deserve.
I have been a brother of Sigma Lambda Beta for nearly 2 years, and I have had experiences within the organization that will last a lifetime; from being Membership Educator for 2 semesters during this past academic year, Betacon 2014, all the Central Region retreats, to conversations with brothers about the Fraternity's humble beginnings. It is a commitment that I hold to continually contribute what I can to the organization, starting from individual brothers all the way to the International Fraternity. I am about to enter my senior year at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, where I am nearing completion of my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance. Currently, I am performing in Falmouth, Massachusetts with the College Light Opera Company, where I've had the privilege of having multiple roles in the 2015 season. I intend to immediately enter a graduate school for a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance; this scholarship will aid the my education as I continue forward with achieving my dream of becoming a concert singer of classical music and opera.
This opportunity could not have been supported without the generous contributions of Brothers from across the nation, and their visions to elevate our most honorable Fraternity to a level that all college campuses deserve.
